What All This Means
In Short: Your Data is yours. I wouldn’t want some nerdy dork in glasses selling my information just because I visited his website, so I’m not going to do that to you. I am, however, not the King of The Internet (despite my many protests) so I can’t really control what other sites, companies, or individuals do. Basically there’s 4 steps in the process.
Step 1 was you accessing this site through whatever browser you use. Some (like DuckDuckGo) claim to not collect any data on you at all, whereas other browsers (especially mobile browsers) track everything you do, all the time and report it back to your user profile so they can more accurately tailor content to you. Better tailored ads, for example, are more likely to result in you spending money, which means the people who make your browser can then sell those ad spaces for more money because they’re more efficient. I am not in charge of this step in the process.
Step 2 happened if/when you used a search engine to find this site. Some (again, DuckDuckGo) claim not to collect any data on you all, but others are going to track your every move, same as in Step 1. So if you’re using a privacy focused web browser and a privacy-be-damned search engine, you’re kind of defeating the whole point and you may find that you’re being shown progressively more and more creepy-accurate ads for things you don’t remember searching for. I am not in charge of this step of the process.
Step 3 is whatever happens while you’re on this site. At time of writing this incredibly legal document, I don’t use this site to show any ads or generate revenue through any sort of data collection, aggregation, or distribution. I am in charge of this step of the process, and as a result, will do everything I can ensure that any data you, your web browser, or your Internet Service Provider (ISP) provides my website stays secret between you, me, and my trash can. I have no desire to collect, sell, provide, share, or otherwise distribute your private information.
Step 4 is whatever happens next. Wherever you go when you’re done reading my snarky comments and nihilistic disregard for the direction internet privacy as a whole is heading in – that’s up to you, meaning that I am not in charge of this step of the process. Just know that those other sites may see that you’ve visited here and use it to market whatever IT services they deem as my competition to you. So if you start getting ads from other IT Service Providers – my recommendation is to boycott them as they clearly don’t care enough about your privacy to be working in this industry.
